For the love of {others} misfortunes

Yes, that sounds cruel. But admit it, it’s true. Seeing something cringe-worthy happen to someone else [as long as it isn’t us] can make our day.

Let me give you an example:  A friend mistakenly pouring what they thought was some sort of liqueur into their attempt of making a stew. Instead, a good helping of herbal laxative was poured into their ‘delicious, flavoursome’ meal.  Enough said. Fortunately this was made on a day that I wasn’t hungry. Coincidence?

I’ve had my fair share of extremely entertaining moments…  The buff guy, in his pimped out car, revving his engine at the robot… staring at me as if he’s ready to dice.  Not to mention the intense rave music and double exhaust.  Needless to say, my car pulled off quicker than his car did and his eventual over taking me and racing ahead also lead to him getting pulled over by the cops further down the road.  Just another drive back home from varsity. Priceless.

At times, we’ve all been the butt of jokes and reason for people to laugh. Myself included. I’ve also had my fair share of rather embarrassing moments…  i.e. attempting to leave a lecture I really should’ve been paying attention to. Myself and a friend timing our moves to make sure that it wouldn’t be noticeable. Only to realise that when we got to the front of the class, the door was locked. FAIL.

OR— waiting to turn into a parking . A parking that I had been waiting for, for what felt like ages. Only to have an old man race around the corner and take it.  I can’t explain the frustration I felt. Nor can I explain how big the smile on his face was when he got out of his car, stared at me and muttered “unlucky.”

… It’s always funnier when something cringe-worthy happens to someone else.
